Adams Shield

On Sunday 18th March Reiss had the honour of being Captain of the Senior South Essex Gymnastics team for the second year running. The Team consisted of Reiss, Max Whitlock, Anthony Hughes, Anthony Wise and for the first time at senior level Brinn Bevan. They travelled to Leicester to compete in the Adams Shield competition, competing against 5 other teams from across the country. Being crowned winners of this shield in 2010 and 2011 meant they were under pressure to return with it a third time.

English Championships

On Saturday 3rd March 2012 Reiss competed in the English Championships at the newly built Europa Gymnastics Centre in Kent. This was the first competition of the year for Reiss and he was pleased to win the Bronze medal in the All-Around competition and the Bronze medal for Rings.  This is a good solid start for the year and gives Reiss something to build on for the forthcoming British Teams competition at the end of March.

Journey to the Podium

Having only just arrived back from a training camp in Mexico on Thursday 2nd February, that evening Reiss attended a V.I.P. viewing of the Journey to the Podium artwork of all the athletes who were Team Essex Ambassadors 2011. The collection of art was being exhibited at the Beecroft Art Gallery in Westcliff on Sea, Essex by Essex County Council, Arts Development and 2012 Legacy Team. As part of the Journey to the Podium, commissioned artists had to ‘Adopt an Athlete’ and create artwork to mark the journey to 2012. David Shields, an amazing photographer from Leigh-On-Sea, chose Reiss back in July to follow and document ‘what makes a world class gymnast’. David spent many hours watching Reiss in training and shadowed him for a day. David’s  work ‘Body, Mind and Commitment’ consists of 3 photographic montages, one in black and white and two in colour and a limited edition book documenting his work with Reiss. David’s artwork of Reiss will eventually be displayed at Basildon Sporting Village.

The children then had the opportunity to ask Reiss any questions they had about gymnastics. After the opening ceremony the children participated in sporting activities which Reiss had great pleasure in taking part.
